Turning a Paper Trip Sheet Into a Live, GPS-Verified Digital Fleet
A Nigerian manufacturer needed its truck fleet fully governed inside SAP, from driver biometric sign-on through GPS-tracked delivery to electronic proof of delivery. Newen delivered it as a standalone transport management build, leaning on telematics-integration experience it had already proven elsewhere.

The Challenge
A large, distributed truck fleet moving goods in and out of eleven plants is hard enough to run well on paper. It is close to impossible to run well without knowing, in real time, which driver is in which truck, where that truck actually is, and whether the delivery it is carrying has been signed for. Trip sheets, fuel logs and tyre records living outside the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system do not just create inefficiency, they create a governance gap: nobody can easily answer whether fuel consumption or trip duration on a given route is normal or a problem, and proof of delivery sitting on paper is proof that can go missing.
The business needed the trip lifecycle, driver identity, vehicle condition and delivery confirmation to live inside the same SAP environment that already ran its order-to-cash and procurement processes, not bolted on as a disconnected fleet app that never talks to the ERP.
How Newen Helped
Newen delivered the SAP side of a full transport management build, integrating with an independent third-party fleet telematics platform for GPS tracking and geofencing. The scope covered the complete trip lifecycle: driver master data with biometric access management, so the system confirms the right driver is behind the wheel before a trip starts; route master data with pre-configured planned distance and fuel norms across more than 3,500 lanes; real-time trip management across six distinct trip types, including customer outbound, vendor inbound, Figtree-plant transfers, diversions and re-routing; and electronic proof of delivery that closes the loop back into order-to-cash. Tyre lifecycle tracking, procurement of serialised tyre stock, installation and decommissioning, and ongoing monitoring, plus licence and vehicle document monitoring, were built into the same solution, so compliance and asset condition sat inside SAP rather than in a spreadsheet nobody kept current.
Critically, this was not a first-time build. Newen drew directly on SAP-to-telematics integration experience it had already proven on an earlier engagement, using that foundation to accelerate solution design and de-risk the integration rather than starting from a blank page.
The Results
The solution went live across the group's eleven operating plants, bringing 685 trucks and 676 drivers under a single, SAP-governed trip process for the first time, with more than 3,500 routes pre-configured with distance and fuel norms so consumption could be measured against a standard rather than guessed at. Every trip type, from vendor inbound to customer outbound to Figtree-plant stock transport, now runs through the same driver-verified, GPS-visible, proof-of-delivery-backed process, closing the gap between what physically happens on the road and what SAP records.
Is your fleet's trip lifecycle actually inside SAP, or living in a separate app that never talks to it?
